History of Palmyra, Wayne County, New York

Compiled and written by the Palmyra, N. Y. Western Presbyterian Church, Woman's Society, this manuscript provides names, dates, and narrative concerning the early settlers of Palmyra, as well as church, cemetery, and school histories.

In the winter of 1788-9 John Swift and Colonel John Jenkins purchased Tract 12, Range 2, now Palmyra, and commenced the survey of it into farm lots in March. Thus wrote Orsamus Turner in his "History of the Pioneer Settlement of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase."

A feature of this manuscript above all other items found within its covers, are the photographs that heavily adorn its pages. From images of the town, to  of people, to the photographs of homesteads, this books imagery is extensive.

  • Brief sketches of early settlers
  • Church History
